The Automotive Metal Stamping Market is anticipated to register a CAGR of over 3% during the forecast period (2020 – 2025).
– The growth in Automotive Metal Stamping market can be attributed to the increasing demand in the automotive industry and the reducing manufacturing costs by converting sheet metal into shapes and sizes based on requirements. It also helps in growing fuel efficiency in the automotive industry.
– Increasing use of sheet metal for the production of automobile chassis, transmission components, and interior & exterior structural components is expected to drive the market over the forecast period.
– Rising production of automobile cars and heavy trucks is expected to increase the demand for the technology during the forecast period. Also, technological innovations such as hybrid-electromagnetic metal stamping machines which reduce the chances of breakdowns during stamping are expected resulting a positive impact on industry growth.
– The production of commercial vehicles has been continuously growing in countries like China, Japan, Germany and the United States, which is expected to have a positive impact on market growth.

Key Market Trends

Blanking Process is expected to witness faster growth

Growing competition in the automotive industry has led to a global increase in the demand for metal stamping. In the global metal stamping market, the sought shape of the metal is achieved by the Blanking or punching process with the help of stamping dies.

Blanking process is a process in which a punch and a die are used to get a surface cut out of a metal sheet of the required shape and dimensions. It is achieved by first compressing the whole part, after which the upper and lower punch extract the blank. This allows the process to hold very tight tolerances, and hence, eliminate secondary operations. Metals used in the global metal stamping market are copper, steel, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel.

Increased use of alloys, such as cast aluminum, cast iron, titanium, and forged steel still forms an essential part of automotive engines. Furthermore, technological improvements, including the use of hybrid electromagnetically-supported sheet metal stamping machines, is expected to have a positive impact on the market’s growth.

Nowadays, in most of the manufacturing plants, the entire process of blanking is automated, it is monitored through computers and the data is available with the central server, which helps the operator in taking necessary decisions in critical situations. The amount of pressure applied is very important in this process. For automotive metal forming, the blank is often made of sheet metal, which can be stamped, cut or bent into a required shape for an automobile’s body.

North America Experiences Highest Growth

North America the largest producer of metals such as aluminum, steel, and iron, which are the major metals used for metal stamping in the automotive sector. The production of automobiles, such as commercial vehicles and heavy trucks, is expected to increase in the next few years. Presence of the headquarters of the main vehicle manufacturers, such as Ford, Chrysler, and GM, in the region is a major driving factor for the metal stamping market in the region.

Furthermore, metal stamping is categorized under the metal fabrication industry in the United States which represents a significant chunk in the manufacturing sector. The fabricated metal products industry converts metal into intermediate or end products. Manufacturers in the industry also treat metals and metal-formed products, which are fabricated elsewhere, and engage in the processes to shape individual metal pieces (like forging, stamping, bending, forming, machining, or joining separate parts) through processes, such as welding and assembling.

In North America, The United States is the largest market for automotive metal stamping. Whereas the growth rate of automotive metal stamping market in Latin America, and Middle – East and Africa is low considering the less usage and production of vehicles in these regions, the market is expected to improve in the coming years.

Competitive Landscape

The Automotive Metal Stamping Market is majorly dominated by several players such as Clow Stamping Company., D&H Industries, Inc., Shiloh Industries Inc., PDQ Tool & Stamping Co., Magna International Inc., and Integrity Manufacturing. These Companies are expanding their business by new innovative technologies, so that they can have edge over their competitors. However, the market is fragmented with several local players operating in the market.

– In September 2017, D&H Industries had purchased 2000 Ton Mechanical Press, which will be used for larger tonnage applications in forming both HSLA steel as well as stainless steel. Additionally, it has an SPM of 12 strokes per minute; and will be updated with the latest in press control technology.
