Africa leads the Clove Market with Madagascar being the Largest Clove Exporter

Madagascar is the second-largest producer and leading exporter of clove with more than 31.5% of global clove exports. For India, Madagascar is the most preferred source for clove because of the bilateral trade treaty, where India gets the product without any import duty. In addition, Indonesia primarily imports clove from Madagascar to be used in the production of clove cigarettes known as kretek. The major importers of clove from Madagascar, in terms of value, as of 2018, are- India (USD 138,323 thousand), Indonesia (USD 105,650 thousand), Singapore (USD 76,938 thousand), and Malaysia (USD 21,861 thousand), among others. India is the largest importer of clove with a 27.6% share of total clove exports from Madagascar followed by Indonesia and Singapore with 21.1% and 15.3% respectively.
