・企業概要

The global flexible solar panel market was valued at USD 9,424 million in 2017 and is expected to exceed USD 40,000 million by the year 2025 at a CAGR of 19.9% during the forecast period.
Over the past few decades, there has been a pressing need for developing alternative energy resources or energy generation devices. Solar panels have been proven as an effective energy generator, owing to which they are likely to be one of the most favored energy resources in the years to come. A standard polycrystalline or monocrystalline solar panel is made up of silicon wafers, which are generally up to 200 micrometers thick. For making a flexible solar panel, these silicon wafers have to be sliced down to just a few micrometers wide.
These ultra-thin silicon wafers provide an array of unique characteristics for the solar panels and are even flexible for some models. Recently, researchers have found out a way of using organic materials with electrodes of graphene. The limiting factor on panel flexibility is the brittleness of the electrodes. However, the use of graphene’s transparent and flexible nature may lead to thinner, more stable solar panels in the future. A primary driving factor for the market is the increasing demand for environment-friendly options and increasing government support in incentivizing these options.

Increasing Government Support Propels Market Growth
During the last few decades, the demand for environment-friendly alternatives for the production of power has increased. The governments of various economies are introducing various initiatives to support the flexible solar panel market. These governments offer subsidies and tax benefits for effectively utilizing barren land for solar power plants, which are likely to propel market growth. Authorities are also incentivizing the installation of solar panels to promote the use of such renewable sources of energy.
For instance, in June 2017, the state government of Jharkhand, India, offers a 50% subsidy for the installation of solar rooftops in households and a 10% subsidy to commercial establishments. The government provides subsidies to encourage the installation of solar rooftops for consumers, households, and industries.
Owing to the feed-in tariff schemes in the U.K, solar panels have become more accessible to users. In a feed-in tariff scheme, those who generate electricity through solar panels or wind turbines receive a certain amount for each unit (kilowatt per hour) they generate. The amount varies based on the size of the system and type of technology. This goes on to show the vital role governments are playing in promoting the adoption of renewable energy resources by providing incentives to industries. However, the high cost involved in the manufacturing of flexible solar panels is projected to restrict the growth of this market to a certain extent. Materials such as monocrystalline silicon, ribbon silicon, and others are costly, which are used to manufacture solar panels. The labor and installation costs associated with solar panels is also high. For instance, on average, the total cost of solar installation can be between USD 15,000 to USD 25,000 for average-sized systems sized between 4kW and 8kW.

Target Audience
• Flexible Solar Panel Manufacturers
• Energy and Power Sector
• Government Authorities
• Research & Development Centers
• Laboratories and Institutes
• Potential Investors

Cadmium Telluride is Widely Used in Solar Panels
Cadmium telluride is projected to have the highest market share owing to the manufacturing process of cadmium telluride being relatively simpler when compared to other materials that are used for manufacturing flexible solar panels. Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) is a stable crystalline compound formed from cadmium and tellurium. It is a photovoltaic technology based on the use of a thin film of CdTe to absorb and convert sunlight into energy. It is mostly used in infrared optical materials and solar cells used in optical windows and lenses.
Cadmium is available in plenty and can be easily produced as a by-product of other metals such as zinc. However, one of the major disadvantages of these types of cadmium is that it is highly toxic, which can result in considerable restriction of the growth of this segment in the market.

Applications of Flexible Solar Panels
Flexible solar panels are used in an array of applications owing to its various uses over traditional solar panel systems. As these panels are compact in nature, they can be folded and rolled up, thus enabling easy transport. They are used in various applications, which include the charging of laptops, mobile phones, digital cameras, and other electronics. As the flexible solar panel is flimsy and condensed, they could be easily integrated with GPS Systems, filed communication radios, and power camping devices.
The installation price of solar panel systems is cost-efficient as they can be glued to the roof, and there is no specific requirement for mounting racks. Solar power is a renewable and eco-friendly energy alternative that does not negatively impact the environment and eliminate the emission of poisonous gases while generating electricity. All these advantages of the solar panel system allow for a broad range of applications in a widely spread industrial sector.
The commercial segment is projected to have the highest market share; however, the residential application segment is expected to grow at the highest CAGR owing to the rising urban population and the increasing awareness across the global diaspora about the benefits of using solar power. For instance, it is estimated that by 2040, 15% of the overall world’s electricity will come from solar panels worth USD 135 billion.

North America’s Flexible Solar Panel Market
The flexible solar panel market in North America is growing at a steady pace as there is rapid growth of residential solar panel applications in the U.S. Increasing government support in North America for the adoption of solar panels has helped in the growth of this market. Residential applications are expected to generate significant demand for poly-crystalline solar panels in North America, owing to the prominence of higher adoption of renewable energy sources in homes and buildings.
Solar projects that serve the local community are being built in this region, resulting in the higher adoption of solar power, which in turn will drive demand for flexible solar panels in this region. For instance, in March 2018, it was announced that a 100-megawatt solar power farm would be built in Ashley County (located in the U.S.). The Crossett solar energy farm produces 100 megawatts of solar capacity and will provide Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) with additional reasonable priced power that is ultimately delivered to more than 1.2 million electric cooperative members in Arkansas.

Europe’s Flexible Solar Panel Market
Europe’s flexible solar panel market is expecting swift growth, owing to an increase in clean energy demand and large investments related to solar infrastructure development, especially in countries such as the U.K. and Germany. Germany dominates Europe’s flexible solar panel market owing to a decline in solar module prices due to increasing competition, which resulted in increased demand, coupled with government initiatives. However, the uncertainty of large projects may hamper the growth of the market in Germany.

Global Flexible Solar Panel Market: Key Players
Some of the prominent players the report includes are Alta Devices, Enecom s.r.l., Flisom AG, Global Solar Inc., PowerFilm Solar Inc., Solbian, Sunflare, Shenzhen Sungold solar Co., Ltd., SoloPower Systems, Inc.
Companies, to stay relevant in the market, are adopting various strategies such as expansion, partnerships, and technology development, among other strategies. For instance, in April 2016, SoloPower Systems announced its partnership with Davis Hill Development LLC for providing flexible thin-film solar panels for rooftop installation at the Connecticut Fire Station.
In 2017, a partnership was signed between Solbian Energie Alternative and ILOOXS Technologies about the cover panel surface with colored pigments without any loss in terms of efficiency by using cutting-edge technology. In addition to this, the company, in 2017, also expanded its production facility to Italy, where it will produce solar cells and also to add to its production line by introducing other solar technologies as well.
