レポート概要

Europe membrane water treatment chemical market is expected to register a steady growth during 2018 to 2023 (the forecast period). Germany dominated the Europe membrane water treatment chemical market, accounting for more than 20% of the market through the forecast period.
Increasing demand for fresh water

According to the United Nations World Water Development Report 2015, the world will experience a 40% deficit in water supply by 2030. The global demand for “blue” water, excluding water demand in rain-fed agriculture, will increase by 55% from 2000 to 2050. Due to the adverse geographical and climatic conditions, it has been observed that water reserves in Europe are expected to decline. In Europe, the Netherlands and Hungary are experiencing cross-border pollution, where 46% of the surface water reserves, in Hungary, are estimated to be affected. This in turn, has driven the need to use alternative and non-conventional water sources, including desalinated seawater, non-potable/potable water recycling/reuse, and storm water capture. In addition, as the demand for water treatment results in increased quantity of waste, technologies and smart water grid legislatives have been developed to process waste, such as concentrated industrial wastewater, brine from desalination, and sludge from municipal treatment plants, more as resource, with an associated research focus on resource recovery.

Growing Demand for Anti-scalant Chemicals

In 2017, anti-scalant chemicals dominated the Europe membrane water treatment chemical market. The market for anti-scalants is growing at higher rate, with the usage of RO water treatment systems in different industries, such as drinking water treatment, food & beverage industry, pulp & paper industry, power generation, etc. RO membrane system is cheaper with respect to ion-exchange method of water treatment. The European markets for food & beverage and water treatment facilities have grown in recent past, and are increasing with the growth in population. The health concerns over available fresh water have driven the market for RO water system in household water treatment for drinking purposes.

Germany to Dominate Market Growth through 2023

Germany is shifting toward green energy, and is cutting down on the nuclear, oil-fired, coal-fired, and natural gas-fired power plants. It aims at 36% of the electricity being produced from renewables by 2021, and hence, the requirement for water in the power sector is expected to have a positive influence for the market of membrane water treatment chemicals’ products. Stricter regulations and requirement for reduction of energy is expected to drive the market in Germany through the forecast period.
