レポート概要

The Europe PUR hot-melt adhesives market is expected to register a CAGR of 6.85% during the forecast period, 2018 to 2023. Germany is estimated to lead the market, due to its rapid increase in automotive production. The automotive segment is expected to be the fastest growing by application.
Increasing Applications in a Vast Range of Industries

PUR hot-melt adhesives are designed for high impact and toughened applications. The adhesives begin to polymerize as they cool, and undergo a secondary moisture cure that causes the adhesive to crosslink, forming a new polyurethane polymer, that provides higher strength and flexibility than the traditional hot melts. PU hot-melt adhesives are heat-resistant, and can be used in heat sensitive end-use applications, and for bonding appliance housings and cabinets, thermal insulation panels in dishwashers, nameplates, touchpads, and vinyl gaskets. These adhesives are increasingly used in the production of the automotive interior panels. The adhesive systems are more frequently used for lamination applications in automotive industry. PUR hot-melt adhesives are used to laminate nearly all textile substrates. After cross-linking, the adhesives provide a high-quality bond, which is not only soft on the material, but also is boil-resistant. The applications of PU hot-melt adhesives are increasing swiftly in the packaging industry. Perfumes, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and beauty products are packaged in transparent or clear cases. PU hot-melt adhesives are used to seal those packages to ensure a clear application and end-products with no defects.

Automotive – The Fastest Growing Application

PUR hot-melt adhesives are increasingly being used in the production of automotive interior panels. In addition, PUR hot melt adhesives can be used during the manufacturing of car seats, for fixing cables in the roof liner, to bond door sill protectors, and other plastic parts. They can also be used to bond emblems and anchor plates onto gear knobs. Various materials, such as, plastics, metals, lacquers, textiles, and wood- based materials can be bonded securely. The quick cooling of the applied adhesive allows a short setting time, and the subsequent chemical cross-linking with the aid of moisture, guarantees high temperature and climate resistance. Even at low temperatures, these hot-melts prove to be flexible and tend to not be brittle. The adhesive bead cuts off cleanly without stringing, therefore, avoiding contamination of the decor area, when the hot-melt is applied robotically. Hot-melt PURs are used in road atlases on the back shelf of a car, as they can withstand extreme temperatures. Recreational vehicle side walls are a major application for PUR hot-melt adhesives.

Germany to Lead the Market

Germany is recognized globally for its leadership in the automotive industry and excellence in engineering. In the recent years, the German automotive industry has consistently expanded its global position; it built 5.64 million new cars in 2017. 21 of the world’s top 100 automotive suppliers are German companies. The growth in the automobile industry will positively affect the PUR hot-melt adhesives market in the country. The approval of a EUR ten billion project, German Unity Transport Project 8 (VDE 8), by the German Federal Government is to improve the transport connection between East and West, and between North and South of Germany. Germany has the largest construction industry in Europe. According to industry experts, the demand for new houses is estimated to be around 350,000 per year until 2020, which is expected to boost the construction industry. Germany witnessed a 25% increase in new residential building permits, in 2017, and it is expected that the boom in construction will continue, due to the growing demand for real estate in the country, led by the increase in population, job security, and low borrowing costs. In 2016, the public investment increased by 2.2% in the construction sector. Hence, with the booming housing market and real estate demand, the construction and building industry is expected to witness a growth of above 5%, in 2017. Germany witnessed an increase of 11% in the revenue from the sale of computers, video games, consoles, handheld devices, smartphones, and tablets, in the first six months of 2017. The annual expenditure on healthcare in the country is estimated to be more than EUR 320 billion, excluding fitness and wellness.
