レポート概要

Germany water treatment chemicals market is expected to register a moderate growth during the forecasted period, 2018-2023. The market is driven by numerous factors, such as a rising surface and ground water pollution, stringent regulations to control produced and wastewater disposal, growing demand from power and industrial applications, and increasing demand from manufacturing and municipal sectors.
Rising Ground and Surface Water Pollution

Ground water and surface water pollution and contamination have become a major problem in recent times. Some of the common contaminants found in groundwater include nitrates, microbes, pesticides, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and road salts (landfills, pipelines, underground storage tanks, deep groundwater. This high-level of groundwater and surface water pollution has led the government and other authorities to implement some severe rules and regulations to process the water before disposal in the country. Increasing focus on water treatment technologies in the country is expected to drive the market for water treatment chemicals during the forecast period.

Growing Demand in Electric Power Generation

Most electric power generation plants require water for their day-to-day operations. Hydropower plants use water directly to generate power. Overall, the electric power generation industry is one of the biggest consumers of water worldwide. Water in electric power generation industry is used in many ways, such as steam production for spinning turbines, humidifying airflow into gas turbines, inter-cooling air in gas-turbine plants, steam injection for NOx control, acting as a heat transfer medium in some nuclear plants, condenser cooling in steam plants, plant maintenance, including blow-down, and hydraulic ash disposal.

Furthermore, the electric power generation industry is one of the major sources of industrial wastewater. Their wastewater contains significant levels of toxic metal impurities, such as lead, mercury, arsenic, chromium and cadmium, amongst others. These impurities can cause significant damage to environment, if not treated properly. The gross electricity generation has increased from 646.9 billion kilowatts in 2015 to 648.3 in 2016 and has been increasing further, which is expected to have a positive impact on the demand for water treatment chemicals used in this sector.

Major Players: Akzo Nobel NV, BASF SE, Albemarle Corp., and Lanxess, amongst others.
