The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) precisely modifies injection pressure-based on the data obtained from sensors on the cams and crankshafts. The piezoelectric fuel injector is an advancement in the common rail injection system that is independent of sensors and does the job by deforming the piezoelectric crystals, thereby transmitting signals to the ECU. The drastic pressure variations in common rail injection systems, owing to fuel injectors, will help to reduce NO2 emissions by 50% and escalate the fuel efficiency by 3%.

Diesel-gate Effect in Production of Cars

The effect of the diesel-gate has slumped the sales of diesel cars and has also put thousands of jobs in the UK car industry under threat due to the increase in taxes and negative publicity. Also, rise in tax on diesel cars is creating a demand for electric cars, which can be considered as a restraint for the diesel engine vehicles and therefore, also to the CRDI systems market. After this issue, OEMs are concentrating on developing electric cars, for instance, BMW plans to build a fully electric version of the Mini. A similar announcement has been heard from Volvo, stating that all its cars will have an electric motor from 2019.

The absence of an aftermarket is a major restraint to the diesel common rail injection system market. Denso Auto Parts Inc. earlier announced the implementation of the world’s highest injection pressure of a fuel injector (3000 bar) that could revolutionize the CRI system. New Economy Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) standards are likely to encourage the market entry of electric vehicles. CAFÉ norms dictate the models produced from 2012 to have a fuel economy of 29.58 mpg, which is an increase of 16% from the previous fuel economy standards. European countries have also passed different policies, like Elektromobilitat Model Region Hamburg, the testing of diesel hybrid buses on lines in Germany, Gronn Bill in Norway, and Copenhagen electric in Denmark to promote electric vehicles. China is taking some aggressive steps to become the market leader in EVs as well. In 2017, the city of Beijing announced plans to transform its entire taxi fleet to electric propulsion.
