The global Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Vaccines is expected to register a growth rate of nearly 7.4% during the forecast period, 2018-2023. Foot and mouth disease occurs in the livestock animal population and poses a serious threat around the world. Increasing demand for animal products, and rising zoonotic diseases coupled with growing livestock are the major factors boosting market growth.

Increasing Zoonotic Diseases

Zoonosis are the infectious diseases that can be transmitted between human beings and animals. Adverse climatic transformations, and rapid globalization are the major factors increasing the cases of livestock and zoonotic diseases over the past decades. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Asian and African regions reported 55,000 people dying with rabies. In addition, WHO states that the countries located around the Mediterranean Sea reported 50,000 cases of human brucellosis in the year 2003. Thus pertaining to the increasing burden of zoonotic diseases coupled with the associated financial burden, the governments are taking various initiatives to mandate safe healthcare practices for livestock and companion animals breeding. Hence, the aforementioned factors are expected to boost the market growth.

Rising Government Intervention

Rising government interventions in the FMD vaccines is expected to hamper the growth of the market. Some of the governments purchase the FMD vaccines in bulk from the manufacturers and supplies to various farms, vet clinics and animal husbandries at a subsidized rate. These low rates hamper the significant profit of the manufacturers. For instance Indian government institutions such as FMDCP, ASCAD, and others manufacture and supply FMD vaccines to livestock owners. Thus the rising government intervention in FMD vaccines restrain the growth of the market.

Asia-Pacific Region to Dominate the Market

Asia-Pacific region captures largest market share owing to the presence of countries having larger livestock population and presence of major players in the region. The East-
Asian region experienced a major FMD outbreak in 2000 and 2010 owing to intensive farming system and naive susceptible animal population. Many such cases and the pertaining risks associated with the presence of large livestock population are expected to propel market growth. In addition, the market growth is expected to be driven by increasing R&D investment and constant efforts of market players to commercialize veterinary vaccines. However, the urgent need to control high incidence of this disease is expected to boost the market growth in the region.
