Oil & Gas Industry to have the Highest Adoption Rate for Gas Analyzers

– The presence of oxygen in the gas sample determines that there is a leak in the pressurized pipeline system. Moreover, the presence of gases, such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2), in the pipeline system reacting with oxygen can combine and form a corrosive and destructive mixture that can deteriorate pipeline wall inside out.
– In the oil and gas industry, protecting a pressurized pipeline from corrosion and leaks and minimizing the downtime are few of the crucial responsibilities in the industry. According to the NACE (National Association for Corrosion Engineers), the oil and gas industry suffers the cost of over USD 1.6 billion per year due to corrosion alone.

– Unfortunately, Ammonia leaks are on the rise due to the increased use of natural refrigerants over fluorinated gas counterparts and due to population growth, which has led to the need for more cold storage. In the face of this mounting concern to ensure worker safety, the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR) has updated its standards for the safe regulation of this dangerous gas. Headquartered in the United States, IIAR is the world’s leading advocate for the safe, reliable, and efficient use of ammonia.
– The IIAR-2A standard, which has been in effect for several years, requires at least two ammonia detectors in a machinery room to monitor leaks. Also, safely designed ammonia refrigeration systems must have at minimum one audible and one visual alarm placed in the room or area around the ammonia engine or machinery. The audible alarm is required to be 15dBA (decibels measured in the A-scale) above the ambient sound pressure level (SPL) and 5dBA above the maximum SPL in the area where the alarm is present.

Currently, some of the prominent companies are developing products across the detector, as well as the analyzer segment having application across clinical assaying, environmental emission control, explosive detection, agricultural storage, and shipping, along with workplace hazard monitoring.

– September 2020: In a paper published in ScienceDirect, research are being done on breath analysis which is an attractive strategy holding tremendous potential to achieve non-implantable physical health management enabled by flexible humidity sensors for breathing behaviors related disease monitoring and chemiresistive gas sensors for early disease diagnosis.

How to assess and control the aerosol concentration are becoming the most critical measures for infection control. Due to the close link of the indoor CO2 concentration and aerosol density, using CO2 gas sensors to monitor the indoor environment can be an efficient method to control the COVID-19 outbreak. The German government is among the first to invest in this technology, installing CO2 gas sensors in schools. These sensors indicate when the air in the room is unhealthily stale. Even , The Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations (REHVA) has also published guidance for schools to install a CO2 monitoring system with traffic light indication.
